Most people buy a new car when their old car needs a new engine, but for some, the cars have special meanings and they want to keep them for the rest of their lives. We can understand that. Your car may be your dream car, or it may be your first car. Either way, eventually, you will need a new engine and we can help with that. Here are signs that this time has come.
Constant Knocking
If the engine is knocking constantly, you may be on the road to a broken rod. When this happens, your engine will need to be replaced. Constant knocking is a sign that the pistons are making contact with the cylinder walls as they are moved up and down by the rods and rod bearings. If the rod bearings are worn, this will happen. Replacing the rod bearings alone requires a partial engine rebuild.
Constant Overheating
You may also need a new engine if it overheats every time that you drive your automobile. Sometimes, the overheating is not caused by a problem with the cooling system. Rather, you may have a cracked head gasket, which requires a partial engine rebuild to fix, or a cracked engine block. If the problem is the cooling system, it may need to be completely replaced.
Excessive Exhaust
If you see a ton of exhaust in your rearview mirror while you are driving, your engine has a serious fluid leak. The leak could be a dangerous one, such as a fuel leak that will create black exhaust. You may also see blue or white exhaust if the head gasket has cracked and you’ve got motor oil and coolant leaking into the cylinders, respectively.
Metal in the Oil
Unfortunately, there is no way to repair metal shavings in the motor oil. These shavings are your engine disintegrating into the oil while the oil circulates. This means that you need a new engine. There isn’t a workaround because the engine is literally dissolving.
Significant Power Loss
Finally, there may come a time when your engine simply is not able to produce power anymore because it is too old. There is not one specific reason or fix that will increase its ability to produce power. Rather, the engine does not have any more lifespan in it and it needs to be replaced.
